On October 25, 2020, Cabinet Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel in the Government of India, Shri. Dharmendra Pradhan announced through his Twitter that,
“With a bouquet of policy reforms, GOI aims to provide a level-playing field to the industries for wealth creation. Well-laid processes and policy clarity are being designed to ensure ease of doing business.”
They appealed to steel industry leaders to begin working with more transparent policies while generating employment opportunities to strengthen our country “atmanirbhar” motto. Shri. Dharmendra Pradhan further continued that with a bouquet of policy reforms, Indian government aims at providing a level-playing field to all the industries for wealth creation. A well-laid out process and policy clarity will be designed to ensure an ease of doing business throughout the industry.
On October 15, Pradhan also said, “Ensuring minimum government, and maximum governance will be key to enabling our industries to create wealth for society. We must facilitate businesses by providing necessary infrastructure.” At the ICC National E-Conference on ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat: Focus: Downstream Industries in Steel, Chemical and Petro-Chemical Sector, organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICC) in association with the Ministry of Steel and Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, as the chief guest. Calling upon steel industry leaders to gear up in order to meet domestic requirements generated at the moment. Stating that our collective efforts with steady pace and co-operation will pave a great way into the making of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Shri. Pradhan also said that our country has emerged from the slowdown caused from the global pandemic and multiple economic indicators are already reflecting that the Indian economy may rebound anytime. He stated that there is a visible growth observed in the manufacturing sector. Exports which were – 6.6 in 2019, have drastically spiked by 5.3 % from last month. He also mentioned that the Railway freight has shot up by 15%, FDI has also increased. There is also a little increase in investments making a positive growth trajectory possible. Such factors are indicative of the fact that this Industry and the businesses have a pivotal role to play in terms of the economic recovery of the nation and restabling the Self-reliant India goal.
Further informing about the Mission Purvodaya envisioned by the Prime Minister of India Shri. Narendra Modi, which calls for a balanced development of our country with eastern India leading the way, he explained that Odisha will be playing a key role in Mission Purvodaya & Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Odisha’s natural advantage in mineral resources and large sea ports are best suitable for providing unique opportunities for industrial growth. The minister emphasised on the fact that port-led economy can be a game-changer. And what role the government is doing for in inland waterways. Showcasing the infamous, Paradip Port that has emerged as a number one port of India. Finally asking the Industry leaders to leverage the rich mineral resources, skilled workforce and well-drawn policies of the Odisha government to thoroughly excel in steel manufacturing.
Although the outlook may promise, the reality yet to decipher. Therefore, one must keep up the faith and look diligently along with the government to make the likely outcome as suggested, possible. However, with a cabinet minister himself indicating a well-thought policy and plan for the welfare of the industry, better development is indeed possible.
