Super Duplex Stainless Steel Round Bars

Super duplex stainless steel round bars and rods are a type of stainless steel alloy that contains high levels of chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen, making them highly resistant to corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, and pitting. Super duplex stainless steel round bars are ideal for use in harsh environments such as offshore oil rigs, chemical processing plants, and desalination plants.

ASTM A479 Super Duplex Stainless Steel Round Bars and Rods Equivalent Grades

The most commonly used standard for duplex steel round bars is ASTM A479. It specifies the chemical composition, mechanical properties, and other relevant requirements for stainless steel bars and shapes for use in boilers and pressure vessels.

UNS S31803/S32205

These grades are also known as F51/F60 or 2205 duplex stainless steel. They have a high chromium content (22%) and moderate nickel content (5%), which provides excellent corrosion resistance in various environments such as seawater, acidic solutions, and chloride-containing media.

UNS S32750

This grade is also known as F53 or 2507 super duplex stainless steel. It has a higher chromium (25%) and molybdenum (4%) content than S31803/S32205, which enhances its resistance to pitting corrosion caused by chlorides and other halide ions.

UNS S32760

This grade is also known as F55 or Zeron 100 super duplex stainless steel. It has a higher chromium (25%), molybdenum (3%), tungsten (1%), and copper (0.5%) content than S32750, which offers superior corrosion resistance in aggressive environments such as sulfuric acid solutions.

Properties of Equivalent Grades

Each grade of duplex steel round bar has unique properties that make it suitable for specific applications.

Corrosion resistance

Duplex steel round bars have excellent corrosion resistance due to their high chromium and molybdenum content. They can withstand pitting, crevice, and stress corrosion cracking in various environments.

Strength

Duplex steel round bars have higher strength than austenitic stainless steels due to their duplex microstructure. They exhibit good ductility and toughness even at low temperatures.

Weldability

Duplex steel round bars are weldable using conventional welding methods such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) and gas metal arc welding (GMAW). However, care should be taken to avoid excessive heat input that may cause intermetallic phases and reduce the corrosion resistance.

Types of Super Duplex Stainless Steel Round Bars and Rods Available

This type of bar is made from a combination of austenitic and ferritic stainless steels, which gives it superior strength and corrosion resistance. Super Duplex S32750 Round Bars

Super duplex S32750 round bars are a specific type of super duplex steel that contains high levels of both chromium and molybdenum. This gives them exceptional resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, making them ideal for use in harsh environments where other materials may fail. They are often used in applications such as chemical processing plants, oil refineries, and offshore drilling rigs.

ASTM A276 Super Duplex S32750 Round Bars

ASTM A276 super duplex S32750 round bars are manufactured according to strict industry standards set by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). These standards ensure that the bars meet specific requirements for composition, mechanical properties, and performance. This makes them a reliable and consistent choice for applications where quality and consistency are critical.

Stainless Steel Round Bar

They are made from a combination of chromium, nickel, and molybdenum, which gives them excellent strength, durability, and resistance to corrosion.
