Equivalent Grades of ASME SB Titanium Forged Fittings
Grade 2 Titanium Forged Fittings
Grade 2 is the most commonly used titanium alloy in ASME SB Titanium Forged Fittings. It is known for its high strength, low weight, and excellent corrosion resistance. Grade 2 titanium has a minimum yield strength of 275 MPa and a minimum tensile strength of 345 MPa. This makes it suitable for use in applications that require good weldability, ductility, and formability.
Grade 3 Titanium Forged Fittings
Grade 3 titanium is similar to Grade 2 but with slightly higher strength. It has a minimum yield strength of 380 MPa and a minimum tensile strength of 450 MPa. This makes it ideal for use in applications that require higher mechanical properties than Grade 2 but still retain the same excellent corrosion resistance.
Grade 5 Titanium Forged Fittings
Grade 5 titanium is also known as Ti-6Al-4V or simply Ti-64. It is an alpha-beta alloy that contains six percent aluminum and four percent vanadium. This alloy has excellent mechanical properties such as high strength-to-weight ratio, good fatigue resistance, and excellent corrosion resistance. These properties make it suitable for use in aerospace, medical implants, marine applications, and sports equipment.
Grade 7 Titanium Forged Fittings
Grade 7 titanium is an alpha-beta alloy that contains two percent palladium. This addition improves the corrosion resistance of the material in reducing environments such as seawater or brine solutions. Grade 7 titanium has a minimum yield strength of 275 MPa and a minimum tensile strength of 345 MPa making it suitable for use in chemical processing equipment.
Grade 9 Titanium Forged Fittings
Grade9 (Ti-3Al-2.5V) is an alpha-beta alloy containing three percent aluminum and two-and-a-half percent vanadium which provides improved toughness over other commercially pure grades. This alloy has a minimum yield strength of 380 MPa and a minimum tensile strength of 483 MPa making it suitable for use in high-stress applications such as aircraft components, pressure vessels, and cryogenic storage tanks.
Grade 12 Titanium Forged Fittings
Grade12 (Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni) is an alpha-beta alloy containing molybdenum and nickel which provides improved corrosion resistance over other commercially pure grades. This alloy has a minimum yield strength of 345 MPa and a minimum tensile strength of 483 MPa making it suitable for use in chemical processing equipment, marine applications, and power generation industries.
Grade 23 Titanium Forged Fittings
Grade23 (Ti-6Al-4V ELI) is an alpha-beta alloy that is similar to Grade 5 but with extra low interstitials (ELI). It has excellent mechanical properties such as high strength-to-weight ratio, good fatigue resistance, and excellent corrosion resistance. These properties make it suitable for use in medical implants where biocompatibility is critical.
